Strategic Asset Management Pty Ltd is a boutique consulting firm specialising in providing integrated business solutions to the utilities and government sectors. Our aim is to help our clients achieve their full potential through the application of proven and practical strategies.

Our staff have recognised expertise in all facets of asset management, risk management and organisational strengthening. Our senior staff members are recognized as being at the leading edge in development of asset management frameworks for Local Governments.

1.2           Our Approach:

At Strategic AM, we see the role of modern asset management as a “whole of enterprise” framework for improving business outcomes. It is those organizational outcomes which should shape the organizations strategy rather than the traditional definitions of Asset Management as being an asset-centric operational philosophy.

The outcomes from leading local government and utilities businesses reflect the fact that Asset Management is now no longer simply a tool for efficiently engineering our environment, but rather the emphasis has changed to one of effectively managing our engineered environment

Consequently, we see modern Asset Management as a multidisciplinary framework which takes into consideration:

  • Legislative and statutory obligations (what we HAVE to do)
  • Service standards (what the customer WANTS the business to do)
  • Corporate Strategy (the administrative and strategic planning framework for delivering those outcomes);
  • Organizational Capacity (what do we have the CAPABILITY to deliver);
  • Asset oriented strategies (how can we manage/configure our infrastructure network to deliver nominated outcomes); and
  • Support Processes (e.g. IT, HR and Performance management frameworks)

This approach is somewhat different to the traditional, more asset centric definitions of asset management but reflects the developing role of AM as a tool for addressing a wide range of organizational outcomes (not just asset oriented objectives).

Chris Adam - BE (Civil), MBA, RPEQ, CPEng

Chris has been at the forefront of development of Business and Asset Management frameworks within Queensland as well as nationally. He was the national convener of the Australian Water Associations Asset (AWA) Management Specialist Network, from 1999 to 2012. In this role, he represented AWA on the Australian Asset Management Collaborative Group and provided input into a joint “Australian” position on the proposed international standard on Asset Management (ISO55000)..
